Apart from some crews participating in the Caribbean Circuit, new boats will be present for which there is space available in the docks of Marina Casa de Campo and for those who cannot approach with their boat, charter options are also offered.
Tournament director Rick Alvarez of International Billfish Tournaments highlights the event's main strengths: "To date, we are known in the Dominican Republic because we donate part of the funds raised to recognized charitable foundations dedicated to the education of Dominican children. In the case of the Blue Marlin Classic, the Patronato Oriental-Hogar del Niño has each year received generous contributions donated as a result of the contest. There is also an international group of certified observers, so that each competing boat has one of them on board to prevent possible infractions and identify the species before each fish is returned to its environment. Finally, it rewards in "metallic" the crews that place the most tags on the fish for later scientific data".
For the event, whose objective is the blue fishing, there are scheduled activities on land, such as the Happy Hour, the evening party of the second day or the award ceremony, among other activities.

The days properly dedicated to competition are from 12 to 14 and the day of 11 is reserved for training and 15 for the awards ceremony. Both for the official training and during the championship, the organizers will provide the boats, which will have a maximum of three crew - captain of the team, skipper and mate, who will also be judge. Likewise, the boats with the South African team will also have a judge of different nationality. Everything is prepared not to favour any country. The length of the boats will range from 7.50 m to 12 m, with an average cruising speed of 18 knots.

An opening ceremony will be held in Johannesburg on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sandton Convention Centre, so those wishing to attend the opening ceremony must make their own arrangements to travel from Sodwana to Durban, fly to Johannesburg and stay in a hotel, but there is also the option of staying in Sodwana Bay from February 9.
