Alfajiri, the jewel of Pemba Channel
By Claudio Vauban

One of the most beautiful beaches in Kenya, located 60 kilometers south of Mombasa is Diani Beach. In the center of the beach is a unique establishment: Alfajiri.

It consists of three imposing villas that are very unique and different from each other: Cliff Villa -which, from its elevated position dominates the Indian Ocean-, Garden Villa -which has a large terrace with lush gardens and an infinity private pool overlooking the changing tides of the Indian Ocean- and Beach Villa -constructed, as its name suggests, just a few steps from the beach, with a high roof of makuti.

This luxury hotel project is the work of an Italian couple, Marica and Fabrizio, who are always present at the resort to ensure that guests are perfectly cared for by the entire staff. Their European heritage can be seen in the cuisine they offer, which has a strong Mediterranean influence but takes advantage of the ingredients provided by their location: impressive seafood, yellowfin tuna, sea bream, snapper and fresh vegetables come daily from local farms.

Alfajiri is considered one of the best resorts on the Kenyan coast.

In addition to relaxing on the formidable Diani beach, Alfajiri has a wide range of activities to offer its guests: from golfing on a nearby 18-hole course, to diving on coral reefs using our Ngalawa (local African boats), snorkeling, marine safari or visiting elephants in the hills of Shimba. In the hotel itself you can receive a toning massage and there is a gym with sauna in a property near the establishment.

Among the multiple activities it offers, the deep-sea fishing in the Pemba Channel is especially noteworthy.

There is no doubt, however, that it is ideal for deep-sea fishing. Alfajiri is located in a privileged place in the world for fishing: the Pemba Channel. Good deep-sea fishing enthusiasts know that it is one of the best places in the Indian Ocean to fish for marlin. With a width of 50 kilometres, it is bounded to the east by the island of Pemba, to the west by the African continent (Kenya and Tanzania) and to the south by the island of Zanzibar.
